Glad to see you...
If the gaming industry is an automobile, and the game designers are the drivers, then that makes us, the players, backseat drivers, and we'll be damned if we're gonna let the industry keep on heading the way it's going (good or bad) without letting them know what we think. So buckle up, feel free to complain about there being no air in the back, and bring your most critical and analytical mind to the open air discussion of the current age, Backseat Gamers!

I read deeper into Kotaku's article - I had no idea that there were other glitches that needed patching so badly. It's a shame that some of the weapon balancing issues aren't considered glitching. I do consider it cheating.
ReplyDeleteSome members of this blog disagree with me, and believe that some of these exploits are in-game tools that you should use to your advantage. Although I respect that decision and line of thought, I ask what the point of the game is?
Are you getting the same experience out of the game by exploiting particular elements of it, glitches or otherwise? Why do we play the games we play in the first place? Are we looking for the experience, or are we trying to raise our arbitrary stats in this digital scoreboard?
Who disagrees with you? Juniper even admits it's shady to use the 1887s, but that it's fun. I won't use the damn things. At least with my blessed heartbeat sensor there's a huge counterbalance of the Ninja Perk. Especially Ninja Pro where nobody hears your footsteps.
ReplyDeleteI'm crazy anal about my k/d ratio. I'm proud of where it's at and that I haven't used a single game exploit or cheat to get there (including akimbo shottys) All honest killing.
Wow... i know the Javelin glitch and will even admit I've used it once or twice but after realizing how cheap and ineffectie it really is I just ignored it. So, judge me if you want.
ReplyDeleteI will say that ive never heard of the care package glitch but definitely explains a couple of games and the crazy amount of airstrikes and missles.
Some of these glitches I haven't heard of... nor really care too since I won't use them. Maybe they don't work the same on the PC anyways...
ReplyDelete...and a heartbeat sensor is way more lame and skilless than those shotguns... The only thing that beats a heartbeat sensor on absolute gayness is the noob tube.
My thoughts have come off far too critical - my apologies.
ReplyDeleteI'm going with Enemy on this one. There are counter balances to the set-ups, and it's a great idea to use them. It might feel skillless to some to use items like the heartbeat sensor (and even the noob tobe), but those things will take the place of something else as well.
My big thing about the akimbo shotties is the lack of realism it presents. Given, we are playing a video game, but so much of MW2 tries to strive for that sense of realism and running around the map with two antique shotguns, running around like John Wayne picking off bandits from the high rooftops just doesn't fit. Even if the weapon wasn't effective in MP, how do they even fit in to the universe they've crafted?
Juniper... no no, the ultimate douchebagery would be akimbo 1887 with thermal and heartbeat sensors.... if possible... and thank God it's not I dispise those cowards that use the thermal/heartbeat combo on snipers a whole hell of a lot more than comando knifers, akimbo shotgunners, and noobtubers combined
ReplyDeleteI understand it may be upsetting to fight a guy that's invisible for all intents and purposes (Cold Blooded, Silenced and Ninja), but turn on Ninja and you'll be invisible to me. A lot more people use it than I thought. Noob tubes are gay because they take up a perk that doesn't suck.
ReplyDeleteI still have to kill you w/heartbeat sensor on. I use a Silencer AND don't have Stopping Power on so taking me out before I kill you isn't all that hard. Bullets don't last long with the SCAR and my backup gun is a PP2000 w/FMJ and red dot. I still kill a lot with that gun too.
P.S. I don't know how anyone can use a Thermal Sight. It restricts your view so much.
ReplyDeleteWe make all these complaints about perk/attachment combos that other people use and often we don't ever consider that we are one of thsoe that are complained about. 3N3MY asked me last night what I was using and his response was "Good God, glad you are on my team." I am a MASSIVE fan of the AUG and I use Bling (with hand grip and FMJ), Stoping Power Pro, and Ninja. Basically making the already increadibly powerful and accurate LMG even more so making it almost too easy to kill people. Hense my complaining when it takes half a clip to kill someone.
ReplyDeleteBasically, when it comes to perks and attachments... we will always find something to complain about.
My favorite kit = Silenced UMP45, Silenced PP2000, Marathon, Lightweight, and either Commando or Ninja. A good second is M4 w/holographic site, Akimbo PP2000, Sleight of Hand, Stopping Power, Steady Aim.
ReplyDeleteI refuse to use the heartbeat sensors as I would be forced to look at myself in the mirror every day if I did...
Juniper: When you're thwarting camping bastards you realize you've done a good thing. When you tell teammates that there's 2 tangos inside and save their life you've done a good thing. When you sneak up on someone and knife the hell out them in the prone sniping position you've done a good thing.
ReplyDeletewow, i've missed this whole debate over the past few hours...i've read and digested and here's my opinion on the subject.
ReplyDeleteFortunately i dont think the jalvin glitch is classed as a gamebreaker...yet, definately a glitch which needs patching but certainly nothing more than an irritation. Likewise the care package glitch which i've only come across a couple of times and even then u take the lame punishment and then leave that lobby.
Brjahu, your class set up there is a monster and yes the LMG's are overpowered but not so much that everyone's lugging them about, i do wish they'd counteracted the power and ammount of ammo u get with them tho, perhaps with slower movement, or no sprinting or more recoil....there's a few ideas anyways, personally i think that would balance them nicely, thank god u cant put noob tubes and heart beat sensors on or they really would get abused. Big fan of the AUG myself..on the larger maps anyways.
Onto "Akimbo" shotguns, totally retarted, simple as that, reloading should be near impossible, the range on those beasts are stupid and i cant stand ppl jumping around a corner like Masterchief in his hayday and one shotting me. Infity Ward please disable them...i dont think there's a chance they will but u never know.
FYI - acutal definition of Akimbo
In or into a position in which the hands are on the hips and the elbows are bowed outward
Damn i would mind ppl using Akimbo shotties if they actually followed the right meaning.
The Geo glitching needs to be stopped, totally ruins the game, nothing worse than watching a killcam and the dude is hidden under a dirty rock.
Still with all being said i've gotta hand it to them, MW2 is turning into one of those games that's totally absorbing my gaming life, i've got the masterpiece that is Batman sitting all lonely on the shelf playing second fiddle to the monster. I do still manage to dip into the Arkham Asylum now and again but the experience is usually cut short and my thoughts turn to Esate and the green house campers or damn i'd love to ambush those idiots at the back ot the plane on Terminal...hmmm just thinking about it now i'm off....
Isn't there a huge difference between game exploitation and weapon set-up?
ReplyDeleteIt's a nice way to put it Brjahu, that we never "consider that we are one of those that are complained about", but I don't think that's whats at the heart of it. At least, it's not what's at the base of my argument against the 1887's.
Although their effectiveness does irritate me, and it's solid evidence of the lack of complete balancing going on at IW, I do have a way to counteract them as Enemy put. Their presence in the game though, is what bothers me. The weapon, has no place stylistically among the other tools that IW has given us to choose from. Here, let me kill you with my grandfather's antique buck shotgun, then finish your team off with my computer controlled tactical precision airstrike. What?! It's even in the name of the game - explain to me how an antiquated shotgun has any role as a primary weapon in a game called Modern Warfare.
Playing with Seven for a while last night and I switched out my Silencer for FMJ rounds and I was a big fan. Sure I lose some stealth, but I get back my range and a little extra damage. K/D spread seemed unaffected if not a little better than normal silencer play.
ReplyDeletei have to correct what i said about Heartbeat sensors on LMG's i picked up someones load out last night and low and behold, AUG with HBS on it, i dont think it's such a bad thing i'd just prefer the customisation of those particular weapons to be limited to help with balancing.
ReplyDeleteFMJ is on most of my weapons as i rarely use red dot sights or such.
For those who care, my fav load out
Scar w/FMJ
Stinger
Semtex
Slight of hand
Hardline or Stopping power
Ninja
Painkiller
