Today the PlayStation brand is 15 years old. Post your most memorable PlayStation moment.
Memorable Moment: Mainly just wishing that I had one, but pretty much playing the hell out of any and all of the Twisted Metal games to watch the cool cinematic endings for each character. I love you Mr. Grimm.
Glad to see you...
If the gaming industry is an automobile, and the game designers are the drivers, then that makes us, the players, backseat drivers, and we'll be damned if we're gonna let the industry keep on heading the way it's going (good or bad) without letting them know what we think. So buckle up, feel free to complain about there being no air in the back, and bring your most critical and analytical mind to the open air discussion of the current age, Backseat Gamers!

Renting Resident Evil 2 when it first came out and playing it A LOT on my brother's friend's playstation that we had borrowed forever. Being amazed that the game was 4 discs. Oh yeah, and the first Licker that you come across in the hallway is a fond memory too.
ReplyDelete"TAKE THIS KEYCARD.....RESCUE THE SURVIVORS...IN THE OTHER ROOMS."
There was this game, in hindsight, probably quite crappy, called "Jumping Flash". I played it to death at my buddy's house... It was one of the first 3D games I played, because it was always a few years after the systems came out that it arrived in our home. You had to like jump real high, and collect powerups, like roman candles and stuff.
ReplyDeleteI just realized me describing this game with vague details really makes me come off as a huge pothead.
My experiences are three-fold:
ReplyDelete1. Man this Playstation sucks. Sure the graphics are cool but why wait 5 min to load when my N64 is instant. (PSOne)
2. My roommates a drug addict but at least he's got a PS2 that I never get to play since he sleeps all day (PS2)
3. My wife hates me because I banned all movie purchases since the downfall of HDDVD (RIP) so she tells me to buy a BD player and get it over with. In April i joined the Darkside. (PS3)
I loved Jumping Flash as a kid..
ReplyDeleteGrowing up I was a Sega Genesis kid. Eventually I moved on to the Nintendo consoles, and swore off the evil that was PlayStation. That was until my best friend during that time of my life introduced me to the brands of games that I still love to this day: Metal Gear, Final Fantasy, and Tekken. Although I did eventually switch to PlayStation, I never truly abandoned Nintendo. I somehow found a way so that I could have both of the company's current gen console at the same time. I still think that the N64 has some of the best games ever made, regardless of it's relatively smaller library of games, but the PS1 definitely paved the way for the future of gaming consoles.
Playing Resident Evil 1, 2, & 3 (STAAAARS!!!) was pretty sweet, but I think it may have been topped by the first time I played Castlevania: Symphony of the night.
ReplyDeleteBut even those do not top my list. That honor has to go to playing through Final Fantasy 7. It finally showed me what the Playstation could really do.
I think an honorable mention also needs to go to the original Tomb Raider, which was the 1st Playstation game I ever played, and I played it to death.
And Lead Salad, I'm quite certain that Resident Evil 2 was only 2 discs. Check yourself before you wreck yourself.
I just looked it up and you're correct. I thought each scenario (Leon A and B/Claire A and B) had their own disc but it was just divided into the 2 characters. Fartknocker.
ReplyDeleteFFVII on the PSONE...
ReplyDelete...and playing GTAIII for the first time... and rushing out the next day to purchase a PS2.
Metal Gear Solid...the first, still the best.
ReplyDeletetimesplitters 1 - 4 players split screen = awesomeness
