Glad to see you...

If the gaming industry is an automobile, and the game designers are the drivers, then that makes us, the players, backseat drivers, and we'll be damned if we're gonna let the industry keep on heading the way it's going (good or bad) without letting them know what we think. So buckle up, feel free to complain about there being no air in the back, and bring your most critical and analytical mind to the open air discussion of the current age, Backseat Gamers!

Dark horse games

So there's me working away at work doing watever it is i do for a living and an idea for a blog topic springs to my mind. Dark horse games, basically what games have come out over the past few years which have received minimal hype if any at all and once released turn out to be a quality title.

My example would be Batman: Arkham Asylum - very little hype, no massive marketing shananagins just a game that oozes quality.

My one for the future has gotta be Alien vs Predator. Has anyone been keeping tabs on this game at all? Release date has just been announced for Feb 10th

So anyways, time to hand it over to you guys...

  1. Anyone remember a little game called Battlefield: 1943?

  2. Braid. It ended up getting fairly well known, due to the story of it's development getting reported just about everywhere, and the massive ego of Jonathan Blow, but it still landed in my top 10 all time, and helped me scratch a serious itch I was having.

3N3MY, how was Mechinarium? Did you end up playing it?

  3. The Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay (those of you that know me well enough saw that one coming) and The Darkness (another amazing game by Starbreeze that never got it's fair shake...Mike Patton is KING!).

    Tetris.

  5. skatch: Mirrors Edge and Dead Space are AMAZING!

I guess this list kind of reminds me of brjahu's great games no one else ever played so I'm throwing Metal Arms: Glitch in the System back out there.

I'm playing Machinarium (PC) right now and it's pretty astonishing.

  7. I knew about Portal. It blew my mind and when I found out it was making it to the Orange Box collection (an amazing game that still holds the trophy for the most mediocre box art) I flipped out.
