3n3my's post made me think of a conversation I was having with some of my Live friends after we learned of the Javelin Glitch. We all admitted it was actually a pretty impressive trick, but one that makes you wonder how something so simple can slip by the testers (maybe purposefully?) . We then began to name off some past glitches/tricks that despite being, well, a form of cheating were actually kinda impressive. The one that came to mind right away was the Remote Chainsaw Glitch in Gears of War.
*I am not nor ever will exploit a glitch if I know one. i will not say I've never used one but I will no use one to gain the advantage. I hope that those who game with me will back me up on this*
Now that's out of the way... what glitches stand out to you?
Glad to see you...
If the gaming industry is an automobile, and the game designers are the drivers, then that makes us, the players, backseat drivers, and we'll be damned if we're gonna let the industry keep on heading the way it's going (good or bad) without letting them know what we think. So buckle up, feel free to complain about there being no air in the back, and bring your most critical and analytical mind to the open air discussion of the current age, Backseat Gamers!

I mentioned this one in another thread but the Battlefield 2: Special Forces glitch on one of the maps allowed you to crouch into a building with your grappling hook... a building you were never meant to enter. Bullets could not enter the building but you could shoot out of it. Pretty hilarious. Only used it once as my clanmates showed me but after that, never used it... not a fan of glitches, really...
ReplyDeleteIt's an interesting thought, that a glitch be built into a game's design.
ReplyDeleteI feel like even some of the older Mario Bros. games had their share of glitches. Not glitches in the traditional sense, but ways of manipulating the in game tools to make the character do things outside of the normal realm of usage.
I'm thinking specifically of Super Mario World (SNES). Mario had the ability to do his spin jump and be able to bounce of spiked objects that would otherwise kill him. If you spun jumped while running full speed, you could actually traverse the same gaps you would be able to do as normal, but could land with certainty that no spiked object could hurt you. IF a feather/cape was equipped, you could also take off and fly whilst spinning, creating unlimited potential on how to get through a level. Or taking off in flight in a crouched position by crouching immediately before take-off. Or flying with Yoshi and jumping off at the last second, creating a sort of double-jump ability, long before double jumping was common.
I hope I've made my point. I do hope that in current multiplayer design, the game makers choose to stay away from built-in glitches like that. Especially if they are trying to cultivate a fair, competitive environment.
Does the shotgun melee in HALO 3 count? I hate that game.

ReplyDeleteGTA: Vice City - save game glitch, basically at a certain point in the game where u could buy a particular property, think it was the Ice Cream place, if u did and then saved your game at this property it would corrupt your whole game and u'd need to start all over again...usually by this point u were a good 60% your way thru the game..wat a way to wipe out a good chunk of invested time, not to mention the chore of having to get thru the game again should u wish to complete it.
