EA is no longer handling the publishing duties for RAGE. I know that the vast majority of you don't care, but I'm still a fan of iD and the guys in the team just seem like nice guys that love games.
I remember when they were aquired by ZeniMax some months back and I was really happy because ZeniMax also has Bethesda and they allow the developers to work out their own stuff and don't kill them. It's nice to see a very old independent developer (that basically created the FPS) still getting some love!
Glad to see you...
If the gaming industry is an automobile, and the game designers are the drivers, then that makes us, the players, backseat drivers, and we'll be damned if we're gonna let the industry keep on heading the way it's going (good or bad) without letting them know what we think. So buckle up, feel free to complain about there being no air in the back, and bring your most critical and analytical mind to the open air discussion of the current age, Backseat Gamers!

iD rocks... I remember playing Wolfenstein and Doom in high school and how awesome those games were at the time. I was amazed that you could go up and down in Doom and the levels weren't on one 3D plain. Even though some people bashed it, Doom 3 was a freaky game with awesome graphics at the time. Game still freaks me out just as much as F.E.A.R.
ReplyDeleteI loved when they released Doom on XBOX Live. Put some hours into that, haha!
Yeah I too am a big fan of Doom 3. I remember getting the collectors edition (which I still have) at launch for the XBox. By far the scariest game I've ever played. FEAR is scary too, but Doom 3 had me on edge the whole damn time. I normally couldn't play for more than about 45 minutes at a time because I kept getting so damn scared.
ReplyDeleteI was also a big fan of Quake IV even tho they didn't do the whole thing.
Here's to iD for keeping it real!
Um.... Quake 2 was my first MAJOR (not counting Goldeneye and the Shareware version of Quake) FPS experience. A buddy of mine had it and we used to sneak into his dad's office and play on his LAN network. He is an architect and had some top-of-the-line PCs (for the time) for all the design programs. We had to uninstall it everytime we were done so he wouldn't find out.
ReplyDeleteAnd then there is Quake 3 and Quake 3 Arena... I CANNOT WAIT for the XBLA version.
brjahu: My bad. I totally knew and forgot that you were crazy giddie over Quake 3 Arena. My apologies.
ReplyDeletewhich reminds me... I should go load up Doom 3 again and play it...
ReplyDeletei can't play that game, or F.E.A.R., at night... amazing experiences...
Probably one of the creepiest parts in FEAR for me personally was early in the game and you have lost contact with one of your squad. I believe Jankowski or something with a "ski". You run into him "looking" blankly down a hall and turning slowly and walking away. Well if you run up quick...gulp...he doesn't have any eyes. After that I was like. "Time for bed!"
ReplyDeleteAlso at the end in the dream sequence when "older" Alma is walking down the hall at you....yikes! I threw about 5 grenades and emptied everything I had in her. I was freaking out!!!
