I would have driven down this weekend to get it. It's only 30 min from me. I called my local GS and they confirmed that it was only select stores and only to those who pre-ordered it.
Glad to see you...
If the gaming industry is an automobile, and the game designers are the drivers, then that makes us, the players, backseat drivers, and we'll be damned if we're gonna let the industry keep on heading the way it's going (good or bad) without letting them know what we think. So buckle up, feel free to complain about there being no air in the back, and bring your most critical and analytical mind to the open air discussion of the current age, Backseat Gamers!

At this point I would like to explain the situation that happened. In certain parts of the United States, specifically the north eastern sector, there was a high quantity of mom and pop style shops that broke street date on MW2. Gamestop, with Activision's specific permission, broke street date as well to remain competitive. Gamestop being the largest exclusive viedogame retailer, is crucial to Activision's success on this title. Much more goes on behind the scenes when you reserve a copy of a game, and all those canceled reserves had Gamestop not sold early in that region, would really hurt Activision in the end.
ReplyDeleteIt's a little confusing about why it hurts the game makers, and it's something I'm still finding out as I get higher in management at the company, but a lot of it has to do with the contracts made between the retailer and the producers.
I stand corrected by some other game reporting on the web, via kotaku. Apparently there was no outright permission from Activision on the whole process, but they were made aware of the situation.
ReplyDeleteThat is all.
damn...my ultra reliable online retailer have choked on the release of this game, usually get my games 1-2 days before official release but for some reason they've bottled it for this release and only just now sending out today next day guaranteed. hearing other online retailers shipped last week and ppl rec their copies today...
ReplyDeleteanyways might work out better as our supermarkets are going mad for this release, cutting the price to as low as £26 considering i paid £42 think i'll be sending mine back and picking it up on the cheap tomorrow instead, now if they'd just sent them out a day earlier i could of accepted the premium for a day of early play.
My reliable game retailer "Back of a Truck" failed me this time as well. I guess it's not that big of a deal because tomorrow is my scheduled day off and I get veterans day off as a paid holiday. I have 2 full days to play uninterupted....kneel before Zod/3N3MY!
