Glad to see you...

If the gaming industry is an automobile, and the game designers are the drivers, then that makes us, the players, backseat drivers, and we'll be damned if we're gonna let the industry keep on heading the way it's going (good or bad) without letting them know what we think. So buckle up, feel free to complain about there being no air in the back, and bring your most critical and analytical mind to the open air discussion of the current age, Backseat Gamers!

Fat Princess

For those of you with a PS3, a game I suggest you try out is Fat Princess. The main focus of the game is a CTF-esque mode that involves you trying to capture your Princess back from the other teams captivity all while trying to prevent the opposition from rescuing their Princess from you. The type of character you become in the game is determined by the persona's hat you pick up (barbarian, archer, mage, etc.). As a defense strategy, you continuously feed the captive Princess cake to make her "fat" and harder for the opposing team to carry her back to safety. The demo is currently up on the PSN Store in the US.
As a comparison, it has a feel similar to Castle Crashers on XBLA but I could be way off as I have only played that game once. If you've played both, please correct me. Anyway, give it a try. Its a good break from the norm of gaming and has the potential to be an absolute blast with friends. Hit me up on the PSN, the demo has online multi-player.

  1. I have played both. I have to say I liked Fat Princess more just because its awesome to make you princess fat and watch the other team try to carry her. On the other hand Castle Crashers was an epic game. The storytelling in both are very good as well. If you have any friends who have bought this have them Game share it to who ever has a PS3 and everyone can enjoy it.

  2. Game Sharing.... interesting concept that I had no idea was capable on the PS3. Very amazed Sony hasn't put a stop to it. Although I'm not a massive fan of it, a simple implementation of DRM would easily end this. M$ already has this in place by attaching your games to the console ID. I have several games that are attached to my first Xbox, and every time I try to play them, it thinks I only have the demo version.

  3. Brjahu, you can simply fix those issues by a license transfer, through xbox.com. When a new xbox meets an old hard drive, you need to get those two paired up with the licenses, otherwise you'll need to be signed into xbox live everytime you try to use that content, to prove that you are indeed you.

The game sharing thing has a 5 person limit, which is their way of keeping it from going further. Right now, I think Sony could put an easy stop to it, but by sharing the games, they are inadvertently getting more people interested in content they would have otherwise not even been aware of.

Something I hate about the 360 dashboard is the overwhelming advertising that is thrown in your face. Despite my detestation of ads, they work and get the job done. You really have to go on a solid hunt to find the playstation store and their recently added content, something you really don't find ever if you aren't already intending to buy something.

  4. Game looks good for sure. My blu-ray player doesn't play video games. Maybe someday.....

  5. brjahu and I played the Fat Princess demo last night. It was a ton of fun even though we couldn't talk to each other and he got switched to the other team about halfway through the match. I bet it would be even more fun if I had read the tutorials and learned exactly how to use each of the five classes. I have a feeling this might be fun to buy a little bit later on, just considering how much new stuff we're all getting in the near future.
