Glad to see you...

If the gaming industry is an automobile, and the game designers are the drivers, then that makes us, the players, backseat drivers, and we'll be damned if we're gonna let the industry keep on heading the way it's going (good or bad) without letting them know what we think. So buckle up, feel free to complain about there being no air in the back, and bring your most critical and analytical mind to the open air discussion of the current age, Backseat Gamers!

PS3 Super Computer

I remember hearing about this a long time ago, but it's finally done and it's pretty impressive. The fact that you can link that many PS3s together and make one super mega powerful computer is just downright impressive!

I wonder what it is about the PS3 that makes it the better choice for this over the 360? I don't know enough about that stuff to make a good guess, but my first thought would be that it would be hard to keep a super computer running when 65% of the 360s kept RROD.

  1. Well, they still get to use keyboards on the supercomputer - if they had to use a dual shock, it would probably cramp their hands so fast it wouldn't be worth it.

Also, I thought it had to do with the fact that the PS3 could be setup to run linux? I don't think the newer models have that capability, but apparently the project still went through. I also might be misremembering when I first read about this.

  2. Yeah, the PS3 could run linux but then Sony released an update that did away with that feature. Maybe they didn't update these.

And any technology that is released after another usually is better, just due to the rate that computers and hardware advance. Just the fact that the PS3 was released after the 360 means it probably has more CPU power.

I should go look up the specs...
