Surprised there's not a post on this already seeing as the demo's been out for a good few days. Played through the demo several times already and i'm loving it more each time, so many ways you can approach each room, feels vaguely like Batman AA the way you can asses the rooms and take down the enemies how you see fit. It's so slick, the mark and execute works a treat and doesn't feel cheap or too easy, the presentation brilliant i just want to play the full game now and looking forward to the MP aspect, but disappointed there isnt a fully fledged competitive MP mode but the prequel style co op missions sound excellent.
Has anyone else tried the demo yet?
Glad to see you...
If the gaming industry is an automobile, and the game designers are the drivers, then that makes us, the players, backseat drivers, and we'll be damned if we're gonna let the industry keep on heading the way it's going (good or bad) without letting them know what we think. So buckle up, feel free to complain about there being no air in the back, and bring your most critical and analytical mind to the open air discussion of the current age, Backseat Gamers!

I played part of the demo. It was late at night, so I kinda gave up, but I was a little disappointed with the controls. I think If I nailed those down, I don't think I would ever stop playing, but they've created a whole new control scheme, different from just about every other game, particularly, the other splinter cell games.
ReplyDeleteI've played them all (didn't finish double agent) and it's weird to me that I can't move in the world the same way as I did before. Even now as I type this, I don't think I could tell you what button takes me into cover, it felt that counter-intuitive while I was playing it.
It's kind of a bummer really. I was really looking forward to the coop mode on this one, but unless I see some serious growth in myself concerning the controls, I think I'm probably gonna save myself the 60 bucks.
Another Splinter Cell should never have been made after the first one. I was so disgusted with what could barley be called a game, I think I broke the discs and threw the whole thing away.
ReplyDeleteNothing says fail like being spotted by enemies while you are hiding in a bush in pitch black darkness when in real life, you would never be seen at all.
Splinter Cell would make it on a Worst 5 Games Ever Played list for me.
Sorry to hear that JR, this isnt like the standard SC tho, they've totally changed the pacing of the game and i personally like it, Amateria the controls aret the best i agree but once you nail them it feels good.
ReplyDeletePlayed it. Loved it. The interrogation scene is awesome, the executions are sweet (I especially like that you have to EARN them) and it's tons of fun. I was never great at the other games, but they were fun and if I end up getting a certain 360 bundle (as of tuesday night, mine won't read discs anymore - :-[, the laser is bumping into the disc) that comes with a $50 gift card, it will certainly be going toward SC: Conviction.
ReplyDeleteMaybe I'll give the demo a try, skatchuk. I definitely did not enjoy the pacing. Maybe because I like the option of stealth for games but don't want to rely on it 100%. I'm more of a run n gun type player.
ReplyDeleteNot wanting to play a stealth game in a stealthy fashion isn't a fair criticism against the game's design. It's like being bummed I can't use a baseball bat in Madden. (Which, incidentally, would probably get me to play a Madden game)
ReplyDeleteThe demo was a lot of fun, way better than the first Splinter Cell. I still suck at stealth games but the demo was fun times.
