Glad to see you...

If the gaming industry is an automobile, and the game designers are the drivers, then that makes us, the players, backseat drivers, and we'll be damned if we're gonna let the industry keep on heading the way it's going (good or bad) without letting them know what we think. So buckle up, feel free to complain about there being no air in the back, and bring your most critical and analytical mind to the open air discussion of the current age, Backseat Gamers!

BC2 First Impressions Go Here....in this post

I played for just over 3 hours last night and while some others in the blog had some pretty consistent problems with finding and staying in matches my experience was nothing but flawless. I never waited more than 5 seconds tops to find a match.

All I played was Conquest mode and I'm happy to say it's just as awesome as it's always been. They obviously stuck with the tried and true methods they've used in past games and it shows.

They streamlined the spawning this time. Unlike 1943 (XBLA) and BC1 where you have to go to a different menu to select to spawn with your squad now everything is on the same list. Playing with and finding Amateria in the battlefield was easier than ever.

Class based combat is STILL awesome. I was surprised to find myself playing as and loving the hell out of the engineer class. I was running Amateria and myself around the maps and repairing our vehicles while he was C4ing the crap out of enemy positions and tanks. It was ridiculous amounts of fun. Glad to see that the RPGs for the engineers do a fair amount of damage to tanks and that you actually get 4 when you spawn and not just 2.

Only quasi complaint is the sometimes shocking amount of traded kills (you and an enemy kill each other at the same time). I guess I'd rather have this than just being killed every time.

Bottom line. The game is awesome and I'm glad that I made a stink about it this past month because I really feel it's the kick in the pants we need out of a shooter. Something big and different and team based....and....destructible everything!!!

  1. I can support these points with 100% honesty. I was attempting to play with Brjahu earlier in the evening, and finding a match was the most frustrating thing in the world. I know that it was probably a little overwhelming for those servers, to have so many people on in one shot, but cmon! We've only been doing this for a few years now - prepare!

Gameplay is solid, and I'm pleased to find that my kills feel more... consistent and fair than the demo did. In the demo I always felt like I was being overwhelmed, or that my bullets weren't doing anything, and sometimes I was even puzzled that I got the kill at all.

If we play regularly enough, I'll gladly be the teams demo guy. Although I was responding really well to the engineer class as well, having the ability to C4 areas, monitor from a distance, and all around ruin someone's day with it all is so very... gratifying.

  2. Excellent news...my copy should arrive tomorrow so i'll be seeing you on the battlefield soon enough. I felt i adapted pretty well to the demo and usually did pretty well..especially with the engineering class, perhaps something to do with the fact i work in that industry..or maybe its just the weapon and kit load out. Also love a bit of Assault class, nothing like being equipped to get up in the faces of the enemy!

  3. Good times last night. Our buddy SevenGears bought the game also and is loving it as well.

Its nice to see different people choosing different kits so we arent all running around as snipers. If youre ever in need of a Medic, give me a call. It's nice they give that class a kick-ass gun selection for a change.

  4. Yeah, DICE is known for their shaky releases, haha. They'll get it together, put out a patch and then it'll be smooth sailing. They aren't the best at launching games, the PC one is having connection issues as well, but they support their games well.

I've put in several hours already since I got mine yesterday and it's a blast. My clan has our own server! Can't even begin to explain how glad I am to have dedicated servers back.

Anyways, great game! So much fun...
