Glad to see you...

If the gaming industry is an automobile, and the game designers are the drivers, then that makes us, the players, backseat drivers, and we'll be damned if we're gonna let the industry keep on heading the way it's going (good or bad) without letting them know what we think. So buckle up, feel free to complain about there being no air in the back, and bring your most critical and analytical mind to the open air discussion of the current age, Backseat Gamers!

I'm offended!!!!!

I have recently played thru (and had a very good time doing it btw) and restarted Dante's Inferno. Say what you want about it being a shameless ripoff of God of War or that it's not at all like the real book because it's still, at it's core, a very fun action game.

The point of this post is that this game can be downright revolting at times and I'll admit that more than once I was like, "maybe I shouldn't be playing this." Between killing unbaptized babies and the shocking amount of demon boobs I was tempted to take it back, but since I'd dropped 60 bucks for it and would get not even half that on a trade I just kept it.

Have you guys ever played a game that, in your mind, crossed the line and maybe upset or offended you? Did you take it back? Did you plow through it like I did just to not waste your money?

  1. Interestingly enough, some game stores have return policies for such a purpose, or at least is stated in most stores procedural manuals concerning how the associate is supposed to act within the ESRB guidelines.

  2. GTAIV is this exact type of game. Did I take it back? No. Did I play through it? No. Did I buy every expansion made and play it to death because it is still an amazing game? Yes.
My wife still hates it and comments everytime I buy it, but whats funny is that she watched me play through the Dante's demo and laughed out loud at the game. Yes, she is an odd one.

  3. I'm confused... You played through GTAIV despite your convictions that it wasn't worth your time, or you convinced yourself it was worth your time because someone else praised it?

I've got it on my shelf right now. It was dirt cheap at the time, and I figured it'll be a good back up game if I'm ever low (and the case looks cool on my shelf), but I've yet to play a part of that game that's so... amazing.

  4. For GTAIV I have the same general feelings I had towards Shadow of the Colossus. Does an artsy or epic game slide by with such terrible controls?

I never finished Shadow (I was on #13 out of 16) and I traded it out. It was awesome at first, but became too formulaic and obvious and the controls were horrendous. Do they even test their games in Japan?

GTAIV was sold off because A. my wife gave me hell everytime someone yelled a curse word or said "BIG AMERICAN TITTIES COUSIN!" B. the controls were also terrible. The game was a time suck and not the good kind. I like menu management or inventories and stuff, but hand holding every NPC got old after the 7th hour.

  5. I was comparing it to 3N3MY's conviction about playing Dante's.... the control structure had absolutely nothing to do with it... I'm so confused right now.
