Glad to see you...

Blur Trailer

I'm sure you all roll your eyes whenever I find another time to mention my love for the Project Gotham Racing franchise. I've been playing it since the original Metropolis Street Racer for the Dreamcast.

Anyways, Bizarre Creations is done with PGR and their next game is Blur. It's basically a grown up version of Mario Kart. Here's a hilarious trailer that openly mocks Mario Kart.

  1. Ive been playing the Blur beta for well over a month now and I must say that I am extremely tempted. At first the game doesnt grab your attention but the more you play and the higher you rank the more fun it gets. Skatch spent as much, if not more time as i did on it and i know he feels the same. Its just an adrenaline rush.

  2. Haha, good trailer... not quite sure if they can conquer the status of Mario Kart though... one of the few games we were able to get my dad to play when we were kids.

I think Blur looks really good. Status of Mario Kart? Probably not. Gameplay improvements over Mario Kart? How hard could it be?

Mario Kart as a competitive game has fallen real far from grace. It's actually a great example of how balance and competition work hand in hand, and if one is ignored too much, it hurts the final product. Anyone else ever race a round of Mario Kart, holding their own in the top three, only to end up in last place by 3 blue shells?

  4. Upon second viewing though, I don't think the makers of this commercial are really getting it. I appreciate the joke, but by creating Blur, a game that has been compared to a grown up Mario Kart since as long as I've heard of it, they are actually respecting the series.

If Forza, or Gran Turismo were to put out a trailer like this, they would be mocking it, because it's so childish, but so many gameplay mechanics from Mario Kart look like they're still intact in Blur. Maybe I'm not getting the joke? Are they saying they want to draw in the older audience who used to love Mario Kart? (Hilarious, nonetheless)
