Glad to see you...

If the gaming industry is an automobile, and the game designers are the drivers, then that makes us, the players, backseat drivers, and we'll be damned if we're gonna let the industry keep on heading the way it's going (good or bad) without letting them know what we think. So buckle up, feel free to complain about there being no air in the back, and bring your most critical and analytical mind to the open air discussion of the current age, Backseat Gamers!

At It Again...

Every time this guy opens his mouth, it kind of shocks me that a grown, mature adult who is head of a very large company will say the things he does. From bashing Valve to IW to EA to pretty much everybody not Activision... Interesting read.

  1. I like how one of the comments on the article says that he looks like the clown from Spawn haha.

But seriously, though, he seems to be talking crazy. I thought EA was doing just fine. And to say that West and Zampella will "have a really hard time ever being productive or successful again" just seems foolish since their new studio hasn't put anything out yet.

  2. I agree with Salad. This guy knows how to make money for a company, but doesn't know games.

BTW anyone in this blog could be a successful CEO by Kotick standards. Buy up some great developers and hammer the crap out of their IPs until there's nothing left.

I recently read about how Microsoft thinks that 3 years between HALO launches is too long so expect something similar from them since "343 Industries" is at the helm. Say what you want about Bungie or HALO, but few game makers could build up momentum for a game like Bungie. They handle their community with care and respect and it shows.

  3. It's interesting that they started up a company right away with EA as the publisher so it looks like they are being productive to me. Succesful, we'll have to wait and see but I am eager to see what those guys come up with. It would be pretty amusing if they came out with some amazing, new FPS IP that destroyed CoD, haha.

And EA is doing just fine. Bad Company 2 might not be a CoD killer but it's doing pretty darn well. Shoot, CoD2 for the PC is still played an awful lot and it's just a straight up shooter. No perks, no killstreaks, just guns and frags. My point being, he is not the God of the gaming industry and there are a ton of companies outside of Activision's Umbrella that are doing just fine.

And yeah, 1 year between titles is getting a little old.
