Glad to see you...

If the gaming industry is an automobile, and the game designers are the drivers, then that makes us, the players, backseat drivers, and we'll be damned if we're gonna let the industry keep on heading the way it's going (good or bad) without letting them know what we think. So buckle up, feel free to complain about there being no air in the back, and bring your most critical and analytical mind to the open air discussion of the current age, Backseat Gamers!

99% sure this isn't true, but...

The interwebs are screaming that this is a hint at the announcement of the PS4.  Given that it is in less than a month and that details are incredibly scarce I highly doubt its true.  If it is, they have ran an incredibly tight ship over there at Sony with almost no leaks.  Regardless, seeing this and reading about the potential next Xbox, I have to say... I'm not ready for this. I am more than happy with this generation. It is still constantly improving and has not yet grown stale. For once in my wife I'm saying "slow down technology".

  1. Just a week or so ago Kaz said that they were gonna wait for MS to show their hand first.

It look "official" and all, but knowing Sony it's probably just an announcement for a Crash Bandicoot revival.

    Time will tell.

  2. I'm with brjahu on this. I'm pretty content at the moment with this generation. Developers are continuing to push the limits of the hardware with little to no adverse affects on gameplay or visuals.

Releasing a new console is a bigger deal than I think most people make it. Adding new hardware to the market, even from within a company, creates competition and divided attention. If MS or Sony wanted to make sure they really milk this generation dry, then waiting as long as they possibly can before releasing anything new is advantageous.

I didn't think revealing a system would have much to do with the other guys' new system release though, at least not concerning development. Lets say all comments are true, and this system is planned to release and Sony is waiting for microsoft to tip their hand before any real details are released... could Sony really make any serious changes at that point? "Whoa! MS has got this awesome thing in their console? Scrap it, we're starting over..."
